What is a soul journey?

From the minute we enter the world we are all on a journey, a journey that starts with a question or an obstacle stemming from a need and then builds from there to be a never-ending road to exploration and discovery.

Some like to call it life but most of us are looking for a more profound explanation, something extra, something that magically explains all that inquisitiveness that comes from deep inside, that voice that is constantly asking the big questions.

A soul journey is often described as being a profound exploration of one’s inner self, spiritual growth and understanding of the universe. For me a soul journey is any journey, inner or outer, that involves any kind of reflection, connection, introspection, and transformation.

When I say transformation, I don’t necessarily mean a mind blowing, life altering transformation. I mean those little moments when things just make sense, or a spontaneous understanding, or recognition of something you always felt to be true, beautiful, or good. A bit like those mysterious déjà vu moments we sometimes have that leave us flabbergasted.

Soul journeys are often deeply personal and the questions that each of us ask can be completely unique or crazily common such as ‘why am I here?’

We spend time pondering, researching, discussing, experimenting, and searching for hidden truths behind why we are who we are.

We compare, despair, inform, reform, and often conform to find answers. Maybe it’s time to stop looking for answers to everything and be content with being constantly curious about some aspects of life.

Slow down all the over thinking and searching and sit in the quiet, see the colours with new eyes while you hear and feel what is going on around you in the present moment.

Is curiosity a pathway?

When you become curious about something you begin to feel different, there may be a sense of awe, or adventure, or even a feeling of a blanket of calm or compassion that comes over you.

When we are curious about something it is always a forward journey. Even if you’re researching the history of something, you are moving forward by gaining knowledge. When you’re in a state of curiosity you often get invigorated and excited, and this can create connections. Connection with others, our environment, and the natural world.

Curiosity can give us a sense of purpose and fulfillment on our soul journey and often can have the power to heal us on many levels.

One of my favourite quotes ever written is by Ralph Waldo Emerson, he says ‘life is a journey, not a destination.’
